For almost 2 months, baby Alex went ape-shit on his feeding, taking between 1.2-1.4 liter of milk a day. Needless to say, he ballooned and now weighs 8.3kg (18.26 lbs) and is 65cm long. He’s heavier than baby Liam even though the latter is 2 months older! In fact he’s bigger than many other babies his age and those who are older.
Taken on 12 Sep, Alex on the left and Liam on the right. Don’t they have similar sizes? They were mistaken for twins.
I’ve been asked by a number of people what I fed Alex with to make him so chubby. Well, it’s just a combination of breast milk and formula milk. He had a ravenous appetite after the jaundice episode, and was feeding once every 2-3 hours. I told my husband that Alex was probably preparing for famine after he didn’t get enough breast milk from me. Then in August, the interval between his feeds gradually lengthened and the total amount of feed also decreased.
But this month, Alex probably realizes he is too chubby and he has chunky thighs, so he has been on a diet since. He is going 3-5 hours between feed, more often 4 hours. In the day, he takes very little milk, sometimes 10ml, sometimes 50ml, and he wouldn’t continue feeding if he doesn’t want to. He is a pretty strong-minded boy. He only takes large feed at night and in the wee hours of the morning. The good thing is since he can last many hours after a feed, he only wakes up once between midnight and 6am. I give him expressed breast milk during these hours since it saves me from having to prepare the FM.
Alex is in the 97th percentile range of baby at his age. Now that he’s feeding less, between 700-800ml a day, he’s not as chubby as before. My friend, Natasha, told me that when he starts crawling, he’ll lose his baby fat. So my husband suggested that we should take as many of his pictures as possible while he’s still chubby.
Actually Alex is not really fatty, but more like chunky with a lot of meat on him. He’s also pretty strong and kicks like a mule. He’s too young to crawl but he likes standing up. My husband has been telling him that he has to learn to crawl first before he can walk. I think when he’s able to walk, we’ll be chasing after him all the time. It also looks like he may have long legs after all, which is what we hope for. My husband even checked online for height predictor for baby and found that Alex may grows to a height of 6ft 2in. He is secretly hoping Alex will be the future Yao Ming or Jeremy Lin.
